Course Outline
-
Classical approaches to security
Secure communications: cryptography
Secure delivery: scrambling
Internet/network security: intrusion detection and Firewalls
-
Modern multimedia security
Secure communications: steganography
Secure delivery: copyright protection; integrity verification, tamper
proofing, originality verification, access control and visual
encryption
Internet/network security: StegoWall - blind stochastic detection of
hidden information
-
Fundamentals of digital communications theory
Digital watermarking: elements of
detection
theory
Digital data-hiding:
* Communications channels (random coding):
- coding theorem;
- Gaussian channel;
* Data-hiding channels:
- key-dependent codebooks;
- coding for channels with side information at encoder (random
binning):
-- Gel'fand-Pinsker problem;
-- Gaussian set-up: Costa problem;
-- Practical techniques: spread-spectrum, quantization-based methods
and hybrid methods.
* Multiple access channels.
Practical error corrections codes:
* Binary codes:
- block and linear codes;
- iteratice decodable codes (LDPC);
* Multilevel codes (MLC and TCM).
-
Steganography: requirements,
solutions
and attacks (stegoanalysis)
-
Robust digital watermarking
Encoding
Perceptual masking
Geometric synchronisation
Attacks and countermeasures: benchmarks
- Tamper proofing
Protocols
Applications: digital and analog media
High capacity watermarking
Self-recovering watermarking and joint source/channel coding
